THE MOST MIND-BLOWING OS YOU CAN EVER USE!

Yesterday when I was writing my rather different blog on Increasing Productivity, My Windows 10 popped me up with an irritating update (The Meltdown one). 

And considering how important the update was, I was left with no
other option other than to let it install.

But then an old thought striked my mind. Why is it so that windows can be infected with so many different types of viruses and malwares but the other OS don't (at least that much)?

So I did a little bit of research and found out that windows is vulnerable because;

1. It gives root access to all programs by just asking you once.
2. Being the most popular OS, most of the virus programmers and hackers try to target this OS for cyber-attacks.

So, I got my answer. I was satisfied.

OK, not completely though! So I thought to myself about an OS that resolves both problems. 

And you guessed it right! The OS is Linux.

And you might ask, isn't that true that Linux requires good Technical Knowledge to run? 

NO! It doesn't. In fact it is almost same as windows albeit more secure and most importantly FREE!

Yes it's Free.

So why should I replace Windows with Linux?

1. It is Free

This point is probably enough for most of you, if not all. 

Linux is a free OS. 

Meaning that not only you can get it and install without paying an absolute penny but also that you can have it upgraded every time it receives one.

Plus with some 'distros' of Linux, you get upto 2 years of free support in case your copy of the OS goes haywire!

Plus when you compare it to the $140 Windows, it's quite an hot deal.

2. It is much more secure

I am not even going to focus about that some distros of Linux have in-built Antivirus and Firewall protection. Because then those Windows-Shenanigans are going to hit me in the back.

But Linux is itself more secure.

How? 

Because not most people use Linux for Home and personal uses nowadays, and so very less virus-programmers are going to focus on this OS as their main target is the one which has more users.

Which makes Linux much secure automatically.(Take that, Microsoft!)

3. It comes in various Flavours (Distributions)

Whether you are a software engineer, a game developer, a hacker or just a simple 9 to 5 job girl who uses her computer for Presentations; there is a distro of Linux for everyone and anyone.

Wanna be a Hacker? Use Kali Linux

Wanna be a Home guy? Use Ubuntu Linux

This is what I think, one of the big problems in Windows. It is not customized by default. These Linux distros are!

  

4. Less Resource intensive

Linux is relatively less resource intensive. In fact some of it's distros are made really small and compact to run on older and low end machines.

The more you think about this point, the more better it becomes.

If you have an older PC running WinXP, you can install DSL (Damn Small Linux) in it and then see how fast it works. 

DSL is only about 150 MB. 

The whole OS in less than 200MB! Let that Sink in for a moment.

5. Same Features as Windows

After all those points above, you might be thinking that this is where this 'cool OS' lacks. 

Your are wrong! Linux has most (if not all) of those features that windows have.

You wanna edit files, Use Libre Office - The Free avatar of MS Office.

You wanna edit Picture, use GIMP.

In fact some distros of linux come pre-installed with these awesome programs.
